Triathlon Training With Spree

Sean Horner is a triathlete in New York City. He has competed in the New York Triathlon and the Brooklyn Half Marathon, to name a few. Sean had a skiing accident last May that left him with a fractured hip. Happily, after months and months of arduous rehabilitation, Sean is back in action and is training again. He says he’s finally close to full strength and is looking to get even stronger than before. We told Sean about a new fitness performance tracker that got him very excited. This new innovation in fitness technology is the Spree headband.

For Sean and other triathletes looking to maximize their training, the Spree headband is the most comprehensive fitness monitor to date. This next-level fitness technology helps you find your optimal performance zone with Spree’s advanced Performance Optimization Device, or POD, that fits securely in a headband while you train. It not only tracks your heart rate, distance, speed, time and calories burned during your workout, but it is the first and only to incorporate your body temperature. While you are training, the POD syncs up with your smart phone app, giving you a comprehensive real time report that is easy to understand.

“I’m extremely excited to try out the Spree.” We can understand Sean’s enthusiasm. Over the years, Sean has tried multiple wristbands and shoe sensors that he says fell short of the mark. This is what he said about one of the “name-brand” wristbands on the market, “It doesn’t take workouts seriously. I look for hard data from a workout, not fictional data brownie points. It works great when running, but then it can’t tell when you’re on a bike. The battery life is horrendous as well.”

Since training for a triathlon is serious business, athletes like Sean deserve a serious fitness monitor. “We (triathletes) always want more data, anything that can give us an advantage,” Sean said. With Spree, unlike any device before it, you can easily monitor heart rate, body temperature, calories burned, distance, speed and time in a clear and complete way. Having this data in real time enables you to observe when your body is performing at its optimal level and help you determine which portions of your workout could use improvement or adjustment. “Not just with running or cycling, but interval cardio classes, weight training or even yoga, heart rate is very important.” Sean was also impressed that Spree doesn’t use the standard cumbersome chest straps usually associated with heart rate monitors.

“And body temperature regulation is crucial. I’ll never forget the heat of my first NYC triathlon. A man my same age, in my same wave collapsed only 200 meters from the finish line from a heat stroke. After a short coma he passed away. Even if you’re not training for Kona (Ironman World Championship), acclimating to the heat is so important in triathlon summer seasons.”

“For the last few years I’ve been trying to find the holy grail of fitness trackers that can give the most benefit to building a training program.” Well, Sean is sold. “I want one,” he said about the Spree.

Sean says he is planning on competing in a half Ironman and a full marathon later this season. With some help from the Spree fitness monitor, we hope he will be competing stronger than ever.
