Spree Hits The Mark In Thailand

Spree Featured In Bangkok Post

We were honored to be written up in a recent article by the Bangkok Post. Reprinted in it’s entirety below, the article sums up Spree better than we could probably have done.

Track your workout, heart rate and body temperature with Spree

Biometric device Spree, which is capable of measuring body temperature, heart rate and movement, debuted on January 8 at this year’s CES in Las Vegas, building on the trend of connected health.

The device claims to be the first on the market to combine the standard heart rate monitor and movement tracker with the ability to measure body temperature. This information, along with data on distance traveled, speed, time, and calories burned, is then, by virtue of a headband set and a smartphone app, transformed into graphs.

These graphs can then help athletes see at what point in their exercise routine their body is reaching peak performance, burning the most calories or building the most muscle mass, for example.

The ability to measure body temperature along with other data is the key element of Spree, according to Peter Linke, President of Hothead Technologies, Inc., which developed some of the technology in Spree. “Knowing the temperature at which your body reaches peak performance is a huge advantage, and Spree is the only device that does it,” Linke stated.

Spree is far from the only connected health and fitness device to debut at this year’s tech extravaganza. Other items of interest include FitBit Flex, from FitBit, a waterproof wristband that, when worn by the user, counts calories burned and distance walked and can even be used, in conjunction with an app, to track food intake and the quality of one’s sleep. The FitBit Flex then sends the data it collects via Bluetooth to a website personalized for the user. The device is set to launch in the spring of 2013.

In a similar line to the FitBit Flex, British company FitBug used CES to debut the FitBug Orb, a small, display-less device that can be attached to accessories such as a belt or headband and tracks data such as steps taken, distance traveled and calories burned before sending this data via Bluetooth to an iOS application.

Connected health was one of the biggest trends in fitness and health last year and, if the rash of products coming out of CES 2013 is any indication, looks set to continue and grow throughout the coming year.

Spree will launch by May but can be pre-ordered at spreesports.com; the application is available on both iOS and Android.
