Cinco De Mayo Half Marathon
When looking to celebrate Cinco de Mayo this year, consider the Cinco De Mayo Half Marathon in Portland, Oregon Saturday May, 4, 2014. The city hosts the event and more than 2,000 participants each year, which also includes a 10K and 5K Run/Walk, as well as a Kid’s Half-Miler. Nearly 700 entrants competed in the half marathon in 2013.
The half marathon course travels northward throughout downtown Portland and stays relatively flat early for the first 40% of the race. From that point, there is a gradual ascent for three miles, before flattening out around mile eight, and ending on a slight downhill. The half marathon will have a 3.5-hour time limit.
The pricing for the Cinco De Mayo Half Marathon is comparable to similar events, but does offer a unique sliding scale pricing policy to help those that may not be able to afford an $89 or $99 entry fee. Since the event’s organizers want to include everyone that has an interest, they will allow runners to pay what they are able to, but $50-$99 is suggested. The standard pricing for the half marathon will be $99 until April 23 for a standard registrant, and $139 for the VIP treatment.
The VIP experience includes a large selection of benefits, including a technical half-zip long-sleeved shirt, commemorative short-sleeved shirt, catered post-race breakfast and coffee, as well as water and energy drinks in a private area. There will also be private screening and private restrooms, as well as a special VIP area that is heated and covered, that also features mimosas and micro brews in a private bar. Better yet, there will be a special beer pint glass you can take home with you. But, you have to hurry to be a VIP as registration closes April 22, and space is limited!
