Run for a Mission

logoThe Woolsey Baptist Church, south of Fayetteville, Georgia is dedicated to good works and to bringing the Word of the Lord to people in their community and around the world. If you’re interested in spreading the Word and being active at the same time, check out the Woolsey Baptist 5K for Missions.

South Fayette County is one of the most beautiful areas in all of Georgia for runners. The hills are mild and rolling. The area ranges from low-populous suburban to rural. You’ll see forests and cow and horse pastures.

This is a truly beautiful run for anyone who wants to get out of the city and into the country, and it helps a truly awesome cause. The Woolsey Baptist Church has four active local missions, as well as some global missions.

On their mission site, the church quotes, “The light that shines the farthest shines the brightest nearest home.” The church shines bright close to home through the Pregnancy Resource Center, which helps women and children in need, the Fayette Samaritans, the Fayette County Jail, and the Good News Club.

Woolsey Baptist Church also partners with the International Mission Board, North American Mission Board, and others to create and fund global mission trips, not only to spread the Word, but to help those in need around the world.

All proceeds from the Woolsey Baptist 5K for Missions run go toward helping local and global missions for the church. That includes helping mothers with unplanned pregnancies in raising their children, outreach programs to the local jail, and health and wellness programs around the world. If you want to run a beautiful race and help a great cause at the same time, sign up for the Woolsey Baptist 5K for Missions today! Hit the road, and help the world!

Peachtree City, Georgia’s annual Jingle Bell Trail 5K is coming up! Peachtree City boasts over a hundred miles of mixed-use “golf cart trails.” Theses paved paths snake around through the woods all over this beautiful community. You can easily get lost in a southern wooded paradise, for miles and miles.

Because there’s not much in the way of marking and signage on the trails, it can be really easy to lose your way on the trails. That can be a bit intimidating for a new runner. Often, runners who are new to the area end up running along heavily trafficked roads instead of in the trail network because they’re scared of getting lost.

GPS is great and all, but you don’t want to have your eyes glued to your phone the whole time when you’re running. It presents a safety hazard, for one thing. Golf carts and bicycles travel a lot faster than you and can come out of nowhere. You don’t want to get hit!

You also don’t want to be stuck looking at your phone for direction when you could be looking around you at all of the beautiful trees. Nature is all around you, and part of the fun of running is getting to see it.

So how do you safely run the trails without getting lost or hit by a golf cart or bicycle? Why not start off with an organized run? The Peachtree City Running Club puts this super fun 5K on every year. It’s a great way to meet other runners, get to know the trails, and have a great time, too!

Are you ready to get off busy roads and onto the trails? Are you ready to meet other runners and have a great Christmas-themed run? Sign up for the Jingle Bell Trail run today!

On November 30th this year, you can participate in the annual Helen Holiday Half Marathon. This gorgeous late-autumn run takes place almost entirely on beautiful single-track trails. If you want to experience the majesty of the North Georgia mountains in a whole new way, this is the run for you.

The first four miles are flat and non-technical, a perfect warm up. The next mile is the most technical part of the course, but it’s not that bad. Just watch your steps. This is where you run into most of the roots on this run. Mile five to six is a long, gradual climb with switchbacks. This is the longest climb of the run, and  — as it’s still less than halfway through – you should be fairly fresh for it.

At mile six, you get an awesome mile-long descent to mile seven! The next two miles are a flat road through Helen, Georgia’s tiny slice of traditional Bavaria tucked away in the mountains. Then, you’ll have a gradual climb and a creek crossing. After that, from mile nine on, it’s all easy, rolling hills, and the last half-mile is all downhill!

Does that sound like a good time? In addition to this beautiful run, you’ll get a chance to explore Helen and all of its quaint and beautiful shopping and sightseeing experiences. It’ll be just post-Thanksgiving, so the whole town will be lit up in Christmas lights. It’s sure to bring a smile to your face as you find a traditional German restaurant where you can chow down on some bratwurst.

If you’re a seasoned trail runner, or if you’re new to trails and want a challenge, this is the half marathon for you! You can sign up today. With your runner’s pack, you’ll get an awesome technical t-shirt and a commemorative pint glass, among other goodies. At the end of the race, you’ll even get a beer to put in that glass!
