2013 Hamptons Marathon, Half-Marathon Approaching
On September 28, 2013, the Hamptons Marathon will be held in East Hampton, NY. Registration is available at the above link. The event includes a marathon, a half-marathon and a 5K. It’s a popular even that has been a sell out for six straight years.
Located on the tip of Long Island, the Hamptons are a popular vacation spot. As such, it shouldn’t be a big surprise that last year’s marathon drew runners from 32 different states and four different countries. The courses for the different races trek through Amagansett, Springs and East Hampton.
The races will include, at different times, views of the Atlantic Ocean, Long Island Sound and Naeague Bay.
On the website, which is shown above, you can take a look at maps and information on each of the different courses, as well as more information about available course support.
The marathon starts at 8:00 a.m. and hits a lot of terrain on the East End of Long Island. You’ll get to run past beaches, enjoy sweeping ocean and bay views and also run down wooded roads. It gives you a good variety of scenery, while also giving you a great chance to run a good time on a mostly flat course. That makes for fast running! There are a few rolling hills, though.
Along the course, water will be supplied at one-mile intervals. There will also be port-a-johns on the course at each mile. Some of the water stations will include Gatorade.
In addition, this marathon is considered a USATF sanctioned Boston qualifying event. It’s on a certified loop course. As such, if you are trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon, this is a race that you may be interested in running this year.
